Episode Transcript
There’s this nagging worry that you’re not doing enough. That you’re not working hard enough. Or that you’re just not enough in your engineering career.
It’s always there. It’s the reason you push yourself so hard.
It leads to overdoing. Overthinking. And overwhelm.
Does it ever go away? When will you get to the point of enough?
Do Less in Your Engineering Career and Assure Yourself It’s Enough
But the answer is not what you think. The answer is to do less, not more. Do less and assure yourself that it is enough. That you are enough.
You’re already doing a lot. Probably too much.
Women in engineering tend to think working more and harder is better. When in fact less is more.
Trust yourself on that.
Sometimes you just need to know that the work you’re doing is exactly right.
Sometimes you just need affirmation. Affirmation to reframe your mindset and bring some ease and calm.
4 Sets of Affirmations to Substitute for Your Engineering Career Worries
Here are 4 sets of affirmations that you can use to bolster your self-talk. They’ll reassure you that what you’re worrying about is false.
And instead give you the truth about you and your work.
- Career Success Affirmations
The messages you tell yourself in the area of career success tend to sound like this:
- I need to work harder
- This isn’t gonna work
- I don’t know what I’m doing
- I don’t have the right training or experience
- Others are so much better at this than me.
The reason these messages come up is because you want to be successful in your career and you’re wondering how you’re going to make it so.
You wonder about how you’re gonna make your contribution and how you can manage your workload. You’re dealing with a tough work environment and imposter syndrome.
Naturally your inner critic chimes in.
Instead of listening to those negative – and false – messages, try these 4 affirmations. In fact, repeat them after me:
- Every human power is accessible to me in my work.
- I have everything I need to have and know everything I need to know exactly when I need it.
- I show up to work every day exactly as I am and I honor that as perfect.
- Everything I am guided to do in my career prospers and succeeds.
- Affirmations re Your Gifts
When you’re in the depths of your work, you tend to lose track of your strengths and gifts. You tell yourself things like:
- I’ll never be good enough
- I won’t be able to accomplish what I want to accomplish
- Someone like me will never get that far
- I don’t have anything to offer.
These messages come about because you feel out of sync. Your work is not in alignment with yourself. And your confidence has faded.
So it’s easy to be down on yourself.
But once again these are false messages. To realign and rediscover your gifts, say these 3 affirmations:
- I now create a career that I love.
- I give myself permission to be all that I can be as an engineer and leader.
- I have the confidence to go out, stand tall, and deliver my gifts into the world.
- Clarity Affirmations
There’s so much going on in your work and life that it’s hard to stay focused on your career. Your self-talk includes ideas like:
- I don’t know what to do
- My career isn’t going anywhere
- There are too many roadblocks preventing my progress
- I can’t decide my next step.
In this case you’ve lost sight of your career vision. You’re having trouble finding the right career path. You’re struggling with life balance and overwhelm.
Often you literally feel like you can’t see what’s ahead.
So try these 3 affirmations to open the way and reaffirm your journey. Say them aloud:
- I am blessed with supernatural wisdom and I have clear direction for my career.
- I choose to see every seeming obstacle to my progress as information and clarity.
- I am one with infinite intelligence and I make the right decisions quickly.
- Inner Guidance Affirmations
Even if you have clarity, it’s hard to trust the path ahead and know how to navigate it. You hear yourself saying things like:
- No one is showing me the way
- I don’t know who to listen to or trust
- No one has my best interests in mind
- I don’t know where I’m supposed to be or what I’m supposed to do.
You tell yourself these things because you’re worried about getting the right support. You’re feeling more struggle and less ease. And you’ve stopped applying your own strengths.
You’ve forgotten that you have your own inner guidance. And you can trust that.
Try these affirmations to give you back your personal power. So you can have confidence in yourself, your path and your decisions. Once again, repeat after me:
- I trust my inner guidance system to open my eyes to see the lighted career path ahead of me.
- I listen to what my inner guidance tells me and I know that its advice is valid.
- I now allow the genius within me to be released.
